Whether you’ve been before, or you’re taking the trip for the first time, there’s a lot to do and see in Los Cabos — and you don’t want to miss any of it! As passionate experts about everything Mexico has to offer, we’ve compiled our top tips for finding all the hidden gems, unforgettable experiences, and memorable views Los Cabos has for you.

While they may not be the first animal that comes to mind when you think Mexico, seeing the Baja Desert by camel is an experience you don’t want to miss. On the back of a camel led by knowledgeable guides, you can be immersed in the landscape, making for perfect pictures and captivating views. There are a number of camel tour companies in the Los Cabos area, including Cabo Adventures and Wild Canyon, all with their own offerings and tour extras. If you’re a little more motor than camel, an ATV tour across the Los Cabos landscape may be more your style. Speed through the sands and take in breathtaking beaches — while an ATV tour may be more of a thrill ride than a guided learning experience, you don’t want to miss taking in the sights at top speed! Depending on what you want to see, you have a number of different choices for your tour, such as G-Force Adventures or Cactus Tours.
If you want secluded and peaceful, visiting the San Jose Estuary for bird watching is sure to deliver. As the only freshwater coastal lagoon in the state, the estuary is home to numerous rare and beautiful bird species. Pack a lunch — the lagoon is a protected reserve with little-to-no amenities available — and settle in for sights and sounds you truly can’t get anywhere else. You can go on your own or hire a guide. Dolphins capture the hearts and minds of people the world over, and Los Cabos offers some truly unique ways to get close to the mystical animals. Swim with dolphins up close and personal in Los Cabos’ perfect waters — you’ll be telling stories about it for years to come. While there are numerous companies offering dolphin encounters, such as Dolphin Discovery, if you’re looking for something you can really write home about, Cabo Adventures offers the chance to truly become a dolphin trainer for a day.
If you love to cook, you can’t miss learning to cook local fare — and the Los Cabos area boasts a number of fine cooking classes! With the variety of classes available, you can get private lessons for just your group, or you can join up with other traveling foodies and make some friends as you learn together. Classes are offered by local experts such as Edith’s or Chef Issi, but they’re just the tip of the iceberg — ask around and you’ll find a world of flavour. Whatsmore, you can also take advantage of private cooking lessons in many Elegant Mexico properties throughout Los Cabos — enjoy the experience of traditional Mexican cuisine from the comfort of your own rental! More about the savouring rather than the preparation? Los Cabos’ waters host a wide array of sunset dinner cruises. The dinner fare ranges from five-star chef offerings to themed fun — with the sheer variety, you could dine on a different cruise each night for a week and not run out of options! Options include the Caborey sunset dinner and show, or the sightseeing Grayline sunset cruise, but like the cooking classes, you can ask around for the best local recommendations no matter where you’re staying.
Appreciate Local Culture
Mexico’s Baja California peninsula has had human habitation for thousands of years — experience all the history with guided tours around historical ruins, European missions, and even prehistoric sites. Whether you want to see how pre-Columbian indigenous peoples lived or spend a week hiking to 5000 year old cave paintings, history buffs have a lot to see. Check out some cultural and rural tours by companies like Birding Los Cabos, or Rancho Tours and take your pick! Los Cabos is an artist’s dream, as well; as an up-and-coming creative district, the area is becoming known for its arts and traditions, but isn’t overcrowded or commercialized. Day or night, there are galleries to visit and local artisans to support. The San Jose del Cabo Art Walk, a weekly event held Thursday nights November to June, is becoming particularly popular, but local markets and artists can point you in the direction of artistics gems to explore on your own as well. Our Top Tips for a Los Cabos Trip with Friends
Sharing new adventures together and getting to know each other better are just some of the amazing advantages of traveling with friends. But, to make sure everyone in your group has an incredible getaway, we’ve compiled some handy tips and tricks to guarantee you’re all still laughing by the end of it!
What do you want to do on your vacation?
Believe it or not, not everyone wants to bask under the sun all day while sipping margaritas! An ideal vacation is often different for everyone — some want to soak up the culture of a new place, endlessly exploring every museum, art gallery, and festival they can. Others want to detach from the world with a good book on the beach. And some just want to sleep most of the day and come alive at night in the local clubs and bars! Deciding beforehand what you want to get out of your vacation will largely dictate where you go — this, of course, has to be a joint decision! If your group are mostly on the same page about having a beach holiday with no stress, search for a destination that gives you just that. If you’re all rather different and have a mix of things you’d all like to do, your destination should be somewhere that boasts a large range of different activities, like Los Cabos. Make sure you shop around to find somewhere perfect for everyone.
This should be another question high on your list before booking anything with your gang. Each option brings numerous advantages — an all-inclusive resort means no cooking, cleaning or added costs to consider, while a villa rental provides the utmost privacy to sprawl out and really make the place your own!
Choosing a stunning villa rental with Elegant Mexico provides the best of both worlds. Some of our magnificent homes come with a full-service team including private butler and chef — please everyone in your group at the same time! Pic: Casa Bella Villa, Palmilla, Los Cabos.
Once You’ve Arrived:
It’s a great idea to plan your days in advance, noting when your group activities will be. Â Having a rough guide as to how you’re all going to spend the next week or two will make things run smoothly and will avoid mixed communication, or disputes about what the agenda looks like. Map out where and when you’re doing things as a group — this way you can plan around it for personal activities. Meal times can be a great time to unwind together and catch up over some local food and drink!
Moving on from the last point, it is important you plan personal time for those things you really do or don’t want to do. Traveling with a large group can become tiring at times and all you’ll really want is to spend some time with yourself. Â Not interested in the group paintballing trip? Take that time to visit the local spa you had your eye on — it’s your vacation after all! Having a mixture of group and personal activities to ensure everyone spends their vacation just as they want, is key.
Perhaps the crux to having an incredible trip with those closest to you is your ability to compromise! With so many opinions and differing likes and dislikes to contend with, conflicts are bound to arise at some point or another — it’s inevitable! The main point to remember is to compromise — perhaps you’re not a huge fan of Italian food, but are willing to go with the group consensus. That means you’ll get first choice at some other point in the week to visit the quaint little bakery you’ve wanted to try for breakfast! Compromise from the outset — it can make or break your vacation! Traveling with a group this year? We’ve got some of the finest luxury homes across Mexico to offer that are made for group getaways! Sabor a Cabo International Food & Wine Festival
The Sabor a Cabo Festival is the region’s largest culinary festival. It was started in 2005 by a group of local chefs who wanted the celebrate the unique restaurant scene found in Los Cabos. They also wanted to support and give back to their communities by committing contributions to local social initiatives and charities. Since its inauguration, proceeds from ticket sales have gone to the Cuerpo de Bomberos de Cabo San Lucas (volunteer firefighters), the Los Cabos Red Cross and the Los Cabos Children’s Foundation. The festival is held every year in late November and early December across many different venues, which rotate from year to year. The festival actually consists of several events, and spans just over a week. The main night that kicks off the festival is called the Sabor a Cabo Magno Event. This night is often held on a luxury golf course or some other stunning seaside site. This is a fun event where you’ll try foods and drinks from over 60 restaurants and 40 wineries. There are mixologists there too, so don’t forget to sip some mezcal and tequila.
You’ll be mingling with friends, foodies, and culinarians while you dig in to some gourmet dishes as the sun sets on the ocean. In addition to amazing food, there’s great entertainment. Past musical guests included Grammy winner Lila Downs, the all-time best-selling Latin American rock band Man¡, and R&B legends Earth, Wind & Fire. You’ll also be treated to live cooking demonstrations with international chefs. Perhaps the most exciting element of the evening, aside from the good eats, is the Chef Con Sabor A Cabo. In this competition, attendees will be able to vote in various categories such as best red wine, best sweet dish, and others. In another exciting competition, 10 spots are available for restaurants to enter with an international chef they have invited. In this live cooking competition, they must prepare a gourmet dish to blow all the others out of the water. The action is shown on big screens so you can watch the meticulous detail and care each chef puts into their craft. The dishes will then be judged by the Sabor a Cabo by American Express Committee. Only one can win the prize!
The big night doesn’t put an end to the festival, however. Next comes the Sabor a Cabo Gastronomic Week, where participating restaurants all over Cabo prepare exclusive meals and dining experiences for festival attendees. Over 60 restaurants participate, so this is your chance to try the best of what Los Cabos has to offer. There are also smaller events happening all around town. These aren’t the same every year, so be sure to check the program, but in the past we’ve seen some really cool mini-festivals. Attendees loved Oktoberfest and Los Cabos BeerFest! The most popular of all mini-fests is the Cabo a Sabor Rural Festival, usually held at the end of the Gastronomic week. Its attendees travel to a nearby rural area to get a real taste of traditional Mexican cooking. Participating restaurants, usually around 20, prepare dishes made with organic fruits, vegetables, herbs and other locally sourced ingredients. To make it even more authentic, restaurants must produce their own eggs and honey for the dishes they make. This amazing farm-to-table event will show you just how mouthwatering farm to table cuisine can be. Ready to go? You can get tickets at the Cabo A Sabor website. Seats start at $325 USD and proceeds go to charity so you’ll be enjoying gourmet Mexican cuisine while supporting local initiatives.
Other Los Cabos Festivals
Sabores de Baja Festival in Miraflores
The small town of Miraflores is mostly known as the main organic farming community in the Los Cabos area. The best restaurants get their produce from here, so what better than a food festival right at the source? They also celebrate pitahayas, the favourite local fruit of the Miraflores indigenous community. This young festival usually happens in April. The focus here is traditional cuisine and organic farming. It’s small and less glitzy than some of the bigger festivals, but that’s exactly why it’s so charming. This colorful festival offers an authentic experience that will stay in your heart long after you leave. You can get tickets and more information here.
Gastrovino Baja Food & Wine Festival
This festival is the second largest in Los Cabos. Since 2012, the event has been held in the town of Todos Santos, which holds the title of Pueblo Magico (Magic Village). This moniker was given to around 100 small and overlooked towns across Mexico by the Tourism Board to let tourists know where something really special can be found. There are colorful flags, hidden artisanal shops and quaint cobblestone roads that give Todos Santos a magical feel. It’s the perfect place for a food festival. This weekend-long event was created by the owner of a local wine and olive oil shop. Indulge in local wines, imported cheese, and authentic Mexican dishes. The main event happens in the town square on Sunday, where guests can enjoy live music and a silent auction to benefit local programs for children. Visit the Gastrovino Baja Food & Wine Festival site for tickets and more information about this exciting program.
You won’t run out of things to try at any of these festivals, but we’ve got a few suggestions for mouthwatering meals you should keep an eye out for. December 2019 and January 2020 Travel Itinerary in Cabo
There’s a lot one can learn from nature during winter. While most of us layer up and stay at home, binging on Netflix, birds and whales start their annual migration. And if you follow the whales this winter, you will most likely find yourself in the toasty, warm paradise that is Los Cabos. Wondering what you’ll do there? We have you covered! Read on for the best things to do in December and January in Los Cabos.

Take Art Walks & See Christmas Decorations
The best description of the Los Cabos’ art walk on Tripadvisor has to be “The Grown-up side of Cabo”. Taking place every Thursday, the art walks are a favourite of first-time tourists, as well as returning art lovers. The cool December evenings make them even more rewarding, since you won’t feel the drain of walking or cycling. If you happen to visit close to Christmas, you may even get a chance to see some Christmas decorations, and mingle with the revelers in artsy downtown corners.

Pristine beaches, crystal blue oceans brimming with exotic marine life, and a unique cultural extravaganza tempered in local flavors await anyone who visits Los Cabos all year round. However, spending a week in Cabo is especially great to recover from January blues. Our Cabo loine-up includes the best things to do, and events to help you get started with planning your first tropical vacation of the year.
While most of North America is still covered in snow, the tropical weather of Cabo San Lucas and San Jose Del Cabo can be a pleasant way to ease into spring. Average February and March temperatures at Los Cabos range between pleasantly cool evenings (16ºC, or 60ºF) and blissfully warm in the day time (25ºC, or 77ºF). Unlike the boisterous holiday season, in which Los Cabos restaurants and main attractions are usually packed, the spring experience brings relatively lesser tourist footfall. Interestingly, most tourist attractions are still in full swing by this time, which makes it the ideal season to catch wonders such as the annual whale migration. And if you’re searching for unique local events and activities in your vacation, there’s no shortage of that either.
