Sharing new adventures together and getting to know each other better are just some of the amazing advantages of traveling with friends. But, to make sure everyone in your group has an incredible getaway, we’ve compiled some handy tips and tricks to guarantee you’re all still laughing by the end of it!
Believe it or not, not everyone wants to bask under the sun all day while sipping margaritas! An ideal vacation is often different for everyone — some want to soak up the culture of a new place, endlessly exploring every museum, art gallery, and festival they can. Others want to detach from the world with a good book on the beach. And some just want to sleep most of the day and come alive at night in the local clubs and bars! Deciding beforehand what you want to get out of your vacation will largely dictate where you go — this, of course, has to be a joint decision! If your group are mostly on the same page about having a beach holiday with no stress, search for a destination that gives you just that. If you’re all rather different and have a mix of things you’d all like to do, your destination should be somewhere that boasts a large range of different activities, like Los Cabos. Make sure you shop around to find somewhere perfect for everyone.
This should be another question high on your list before booking anything with your gang. Each option brings numerous advantages — an all-inclusive resort means no cooking, cleaning or added costs to consider, while a villa rental provides the utmost privacy to sprawl out and really make the place your own!
Choosing a stunning villa rental with Elegant Mexico provides the best of both worlds. Some of our magnificent homes come with a full-service team including private butler and chef — please everyone in your group at the same time! Pic: Casa Bella Villa, Palmilla, Los Cabos.
It’s a great idea to plan your days in advance, noting when your group activities will be. Â Having a rough guide as to how you’re all going to spend the next week or two will make things run smoothly and will avoid mixed communication, or disputes about what the agenda looks like. Map out where and when you’re doing things as a group — this way you can plan around it for personal activities. Meal times can be a great time to unwind together and catch up over some local food and drink!
Moving on from the last point, it is important you plan personal time for those things you really do or don’t want to do. Traveling with a large group can become tiring at times and all you’ll really want is to spend some time with yourself. Â Not interested in the group paintballing trip? Take that time to visit the local spa you had your eye on — it’s your vacation after all! Having a mixture of group and personal activities to ensure everyone spends their vacation just as they want, is key.
Perhaps the crux to having an incredible trip with those closest to you is your ability to compromise! With so many opinions and differing likes and dislikes to contend with, conflicts are bound to arise at some point or another — it’s inevitable! The main point to remember is to compromise — perhaps you’re not a huge fan of Italian food, but are willing to go with the group consensus. That means you’ll get first choice at some other point in the week to visit the quaint little bakery you’ve wanted to try for breakfast! Compromise from the outset — it can make or break your vacation! Traveling with a group this year? We’ve got some of the finest luxury homes across Mexico to offer that are made for group getaways! Explore our properties here!

After a long, exhilarating day of hiking and ziplining over tropical terrain, snorkeling crystal-clear waters or even shopping ’til you drop along the local promenades, it might seem completely normal to wind down the day by spending the evening kicking back. But not around these parts. When the sun goes down in Los Cabos, that’s when the city really comes alive. Home to some of the world’s most electrifying clubs, classiest drink spots, and delectable gastropubs, both Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo cater unforgettable experiences to anyone looking to keep the fun alive until sunrise. Whether you’re looking to party under the bright lights, strut to the sounds of the local music scene, or just sip on a margarita and soak in your surroundings high above downtown, nightlife in Los Cabos has a little something for everyone.
If a more laidback slice of nightlife is what you seek, or you’re simply setting the stage for something a bit more uptempo, slip into some low-key ambiance with a drink in hand at one of Los Cabos’ wine or cocktail bars. Wine connoisseurs looking for a carefully curated list to sample from will enjoy Doc Wine Bar (Cabo San Lucas), where each selection pairs effortlessly with an ever-changing menu of decadent Italian-fusion dishes, and servers are trained to guide you towards the perfect glass. Equally romantic, but more for the cocktail crowd, the bartenders at Bar Esquina (Cabo San Lucas) certainly know how to sling a drink. It’s the perfect place to imbibe on creative concoctions while enjoying wood-fired pizzas, the occasional acoustic set from a local guitarist, and the tranquil evening breeze.
Beer drinkers, we didn’t forget you. The best place in Los Cabos – in fact, the three best places, two in Cabo San Lucas and the original in San Jose del Cabo – to get acquainted with local microbrews is at Baja Brewing Company. Their selection of in-house beers, coupled with a menu that’s sure to please even the fussiest eaters, make this gastropub the perfect place to catch a game, take in some live music, or get the gang together for another round. If your idea of fun and lively is something a bit more cloak-and-dagger, Mixology Fusion Bar (San Jose del Cabo) might be just the mysterious spot you’re looking for. To know where Mixology is alone won’t cut it – this prohibition-style speakeasy, in the heart of the Art District, requires patrons to know a secret password to get in. Once inside, be dazzled by cocktails you won’t find anywhere else, as well as a few house tunes to get you and your crew kicked into high gear.
You’ve seen the restaurants, you’ve been around the bars – now it’s time for the main event. It’s time to hit the clubs. First stop: Mandala (Cabo San Lucas). Here, the atmosphere is as colorful as the rainbow of lights adorning every square-inch of the club’s upscale decor. With full bottle service for the VIP crowd and a massive dance floor on which to get live, Mandala is popular with the after-midnight crowd and a known haunt for international DJs like Steve Aoki. If you’re not too caught up in your excitement, you might even catch a celebrity here from time to time.
Literally right next door at El Squid Roe, this legendary three-storey club has hosted some of Los Cabos’ wildest parties for decades – and has way more than just three stories to tell. Whether you’re a local, a tourist or a celebrity who enjoys a wide selection of house and techno, confetti blasts, and free-flowing tequila, there isn’t a person who doesn’t enjoy El Squid Roe.
One of the great things about Los Cabos is that, with warm weather year round and beaches in close proximity, the party doesn’t just happen indoors. Like watching a scene out of a Hollywood film, Blue Marlin Ibiza (Cabo San Lucas) takes the party poolside. Dive in and swim out to the bar, which happens to be situated in the middle of the gigantic pool, and swim back to the deck (be careful not to spill), where you can sit back on a daybed or get up and dance to the sounds of guest DJs like Bob Sinclar. Of course, if your idea of the perfect nightlife simply involves an evening in with your closest companions, our Los Cabos properties are the perfect setting for entertaining in luxury. Whatever your scene, browse our properties and find your ideal way to live it up in Los Cabos!
Pop quiz: Have you ever golfed so close to the ocean you could see through the clear blue waters right from the tee box? How about in a desert setting surrounded by majestic cacti? Or on a cliffside as calm ocean waters allow you to concentrate on the perfect shot? Whether or not you answered or to these questions, it hard to dispute the fact that Mexico offers not only some of the worlds finest golfing experiences, with many of them situated smack dab in the middle of Los Cabos magnificent vistas. Get to know these four Los Cabos golf courses and tee off from them next time you stay at one of our villas:
One thing common to many of Los Cabos golf courses is that they were designed by golf legend Jack Nicklaus. Known to his friends in jest, of course as the guy who ruined Cabo, Nicklaus Design golf courses have, in fact, been an economic boon and helped the sport become a major attraction along the southern edge of Baja Peninsula. And the one that started it all? The Palmilla Golf Club, Nicklaus first course near San Jos del Cabo, which opened in 1992. Named one of Golf Digest Best Golf Resorts in Mexico and Central America in April 2018 (along with many others on this list), all 3,527 yards of Pamilla combine everything breathtaking about the region into one: desert and mountain landscapes, views of the ocean and the Sea of Cortez, lush foliage surrounding the greens and even a 600-foot elevation climb within the front-nine.
Yet another marvel of both Nicklaus Design and Los Cabos golf scene, Quivira has made the cut on several of Golf Digest top lists, including the World 100 Greatest Golf Courses. The real treat for golf enthusiasts on this 18-hole, 7,139-yard masterpiece is Holes 5 and 6, which are nestled away in luxurious cliffside overlooking the sea. As you look out over the natural rock inclines, you feel like you are in your own private paradise as you make your approach on fairways that are as beautiful as they are challenging. Along the way, you will encounter magnificent arroyos, cacti and dunes, making this desert terrain one of the most unique golfing experiences you will ever enjoy.
Jack Nicklaus strikes again with Cabo Del Sol, opened in 1994 and described by the man himself as the best piece of golf property in the world. Sitting right along the edge of the Pacific Ocean on six of its 18 holes, this course is your ticket to a golf experience that also lets you bask in the sun-soaked shorelines right at your side. Golfers will have the most fun on the ocean course signature 17th hole, which features 175 yards of beach that must be cleared to safely sit on the green. (Though, given Cabo Del Sol natural beauty, we can understand if it’s tempting to purposely put your ball in the sand, along with, say, a beach umbrella¦) Like it previously mentioned counterparts, Cabo Del Sol has also received accolades from Golf Digest and Golf Magazine as one of the top courses in the world.
Boasting a championship-caliber level of play over 27 holes, Puerto Los Cabos is one of the most challenging and interesting golf courses Los Cabos has to offer. Located just outside of San Jos del Cabo, this club is actually divided into two courses in the shadow of the Sierra de la Laguna Mountains, each providing golfers with something unique. It features the Nicklaus I and II courses, more of the legendary golfer handiwork, as well as the Norman I, designed by the great Australian ever to hit the links, Greg Norman. Hugged by sand dunes around the length of the near 2,000-acre plot of land on which Puerto Los Cabos sit, nothing makes a perfect afternoon quite like sinking a putt, looking up and admiring the picturesque Sea of Cortez in your sight. Amateurs and professionals alike agree that golfing in Los Cabos is not just one of the perks of visiting Mexico it’s one of the main reasons to visit. If you get the urge to play a round down here, check out our Los Cabos properties for your next stay!
Every year from December until the beginning of April, thousands of humpback and grey whales make the 6,000-mile migration from the feeding grounds of Alaska to the warm waters of the Sea of Cortez to mate and calve. A natural phenomenon that occurs annually, if you’re visiting Cabo or Punta Mita this time of year, you can almost guarantee that you’ll have the opportunity to get up close to these gentle giants along their journey!
Whale watching in Los Cabos has become one of the most popular tourist attractions in the area; it’s not every day you get to marvel at these magnificent creatures in their natural habitat. This is one for kids and adults alike, so take note of our tops tips to enjoying this unforgettable experience on your next vacation with Elegant Mexico.
Cabo is renowned as one of the best locations in the whole of Mexico for experiencing whale migration. With a plethora of tours on offer that will take you to all the hot spots, your trip largely depends on your own preferences.
If it’s excitement and speed you’re after, there are numerous ocean rider tours that will add a little adventure to your whale watching experience. Take your seat onboard a speedboat and get ready for a thrill ride out on the water, following the whales on their journey with a few surprises in store if you’re lucky. Check out Ocean Riders who take you to the heart of the action while adding a splash of excitement along the way!
If taking things at a more leisurely pace and enjoying the scenery is more your style, you’ll find many tours offering a little more luxury onboard larger boats where you can kick back and relax with a cool beverage in hand. From whale watching breakfast excursions to fine dining out on the water, experiencing the magic of these mammals in such a unique way has guests coming back every year for more. If you’re traveling with a larger group, there are many private yacht and boat rentals available that will mean you’re in the driving seat. Be sure to tell the Elegant Mexico concierge team the kind of excursion you’re looking for, and we’ll take care of all the arrangements.
If you’re staying at one of Elegant Mexico’s luxury villa rentals in Cabo, you don’t even have to leave the comfort of your home to have a front-row seat watching the whales playing in the water.
Some of our beachfront properties sit just off the water’s edge, allowing you to catch a glimpse of these beautiful animals as they duck and dive in the distance. While many of our ocean view villas set in the hills above the Sea of Cortez, such as Casa Fryzer (pictured) and Casa Chanel, offer the perfect vantage point to witness the many masses of whales that travel south each year. Keep your eyes peeled, and your camera ready!
Those jetting off to Punta Mita will also have the opportunity to experience these majestic sea animals up close. Attracting thousands of visitors to Banderas Bay each year, whale watching has become a “must” for tourists frequenting the area between December and the end of March. Just as in Cabo, you’ll find plenty of tours to choose from each offering a unique appeal, but all guaranteeing that you get to see babies being born and mesmerizing water displays from the gentle giants.
Take a look at Punta Mita Expeditions who offer 3-hour whale watching luxury cruises out on the Sea of Cortez where you’ll also be treated to the spectacular fauna of Bahia de Banderas! For some unforgettable photos and stories to share, make sure whale watching is on your vacation itinerary this winter!
Home to some of the best cuisine in the world, Mexico’s drinks scene is no different. Whether it’s an aged tequila you’re in search of, or a refreshing mocktail made with tropical juices is more your thing, we’ve compiled the 10 top Mexican drinks you have to try when you visit the country famed for its flavors!
The traditional Mexican breakfast drink of choice, start your day off right with this mix of water, cinnamon, vanilla, masa (corn hominy), and piloncillo (unrefined cane sugar). You may not find this drink served in more commercial restaurants, but you’re guaranteed to find it at any local vendors out on the street!
Literally translated as “fresh waters”, aguas frescas are made from fresh fruit juice, water, and sometimes a little bit of cane sugar. Perfect for cooling off under the hot Mexican sun, be sure to try some of the favourites — jamaica (hibiscus tea), cantaloupe (melon), watermelon (sandia), and pineapple (pina). An intriguing blend of spicy and sweet, the chamoyada consists of shaved ice, mixed fruit, chilli, and the key ingredient, chamoy. Used heavily in Mexican cuisine, chamoy is made from pickled fruit and comes in a variety of ways from paste, to liquid, to candy (yes!), and much more. If you’re jetting off to Mexico this year, you can almost guarantee an encounter with chamoy at some point!
This authentic Oaxacan beverage is made from a paste of toasted maize, fermented cacao beans, mamey pits, and flor de cacao. When the paste is then combined with water, the flor de cacao rise to the surface to create a foamy top when served.
Everybody’s favourite cocktail, the classic margarita, is a Mexican staple. The traditional recipe is either served on the rocks or blended and made from lime juice, tequila, and triple sec, served in a sugar rimmed glass to soften the bitterness. There are a host of different flavours you can try; from mango to passionfruit to cranberry, just ask your bartender what specialities they have on the menu!
Why not combine two great alcoholic beverages into one – beer and cocktails! That’s exactly what you’re getting with a michelada. With a base cocktail made from lime juice, clamato or tomato juice, and hot sauce all served in a salt rim glass, your michelada will be topped with an upside down beer for the final touch. For those worrying about the hot sauce, you can decide how spicy you want your drink, or forget it all together!
While tequila may be the first thing that springs to mind when you think of Mexican liquor, you’re missing out if you haven’t tried mezcal! Made from any type of agave, this distilled beverage will be behind any bar in Mexico, guaranteed. You’ll even find hundreds of different flavors to try in some specialized distilleries; there’s one mezcal for everyone, you may just have to try a few!
For anyone who loves tequila but prefers the liquor in any other form other than the deadly shot, paloma is the perfect choice to still get that tequila kick in a softer blow. Made from a grapefruit-flavored soft drink (Fresca or Squirt), tequila blanco, ice, and served with a slice of lime, it’s a refreshing Mexican classic you don’t want to miss.
Mexico’s wine industry has been booming in recent years; there will be no shortage of excellent reds and whites for you to sample on your next vacation! Mexico has three wine producing regions – the Baja California (where over 90% of the country’s product is made), the La Laguna area in Coahuila and Durango, and the Center region which encompasses Zacatecas, Aguascalientes and Queretaro. Excited to sample of some these delicious drinks? Take a look at Elegant Mexico’s properties in Los Cabos and Punta Mita where you’ll be able to sample numbers 1-10 from the comfort of your private villa, made freshly by your private butler and chef!

Home to some of the most pristine white sandy beaches in the world, turquoise warm waters, and impressive crashing waves, Punta Mita is a surfer’s haven. Welcoming thousands of avid surfers every year to come and make a splash in this aquatic playground, no vacation to Punta Mita would be complete without hopping on a board and hitting the water to see for yourself. If you’re planning your next vacation to Punta Mita with Elegant Mexico, make sure to take note of all the hot spots in the region to catch the best surfing in Punta Mita!
The beauty of Punta Mita is that you can visit at virtually any point during the year and still get amazing conditions for surfing. The westerly pointing curvature of its coast means there are always appropriate surf breaks to be found depending on the weather conditions. Winter, spring, summer, or fall, you can pretty much guarantee that you’ll be able to catch some waves. Winter has been deemed the preferred season by local surfers with slightly better conditions on average than the rest of the year. The best part? You won’t be going board-to-board with others for the same surf. Despite its popularity among international surfers, the consistently good conditions throughout the year mean there isn’t a mad flock to the area at a specific time.
En Anclote Perfect for beginners, the break here is typically slow and long meaning you’ll get more time on your board (if you stay on!) to nail down your technique. Go here when the tide is low and you’re in for an afternoon of fun surrounded by stunning natural terrain. Best for: Longboarders Stinky’s Another hot spot that’s ideal for those new to surfing, Stinky’s is a popular choice for anyone in search of a more gentle introduction to water sports with the breaks being long and slow. How did it get its not so attractive name? This surfing break is located beside a jetty that provides cover for small fishing boats and the delightful smells that come from it! Best for: Beginners El Faro Found at the most westerly point of the peninsula, the waves at El Faro are usually surfed as right, and are ideal for those a little more advanced who want to tackle something more challenging, with long and fast rides. Best for: Right surfers, long and short boards La Lancha With breaks reaching up to 10ft, this a popular choice for both left and right surfers who can tackle big waves! La Lancha is renowned for being extremely consistent with the size and speed of the waves and is also known for the wildlife swimming below the surface. If you’re lucky enough, you might be joined by a turtle on your ride! Best for: Left and right surfers, long and short boards
Punta Burros With consistently good conditions and waves that are a little speedier than La Lancha, this right reef break found in the neighboring town of Puerto Vallarta is considered one of the best spots in the whole region. With rides ranging from 30-200 metres depending on the tide and swell, any intermediate and advanced surfers will absolutely love spending an adrenaline fuelled day here chasing huge Pacific waves! Best for: Long and short board, intermediate to advanced Punta Mita, the ‘Malibu of Mexico’, is home to over 20 surf breaks; we’ve only just scratched the surface! For any complete beginners, or those that want to improve their skills on a board, why not take advantage of the many surf schools found around Punta Mita and learn from the pros.
If you’re staying in one of our luxury villa rentals in the area, let the Elegant Mexico concierge team know what you’d like to get from your surfing vacation and we will be sure to make all of the arrangements for you! Time to make a splash!
